    Cornea_Patient1219

Past patient here! I wanted to share my story of one of my operations. After I went for several routine appointments my optometrist found that I would need a corneal implant. The surgeons operating explained that the procedure would require a robotic surgeon to allow for extremely precise incisions on my lenses. The exact operation that I would need to undergo was similar to the one found in this informative article: “Using devices designed by PRECEYES, a Dutch medical robotics firm, the procedure involved removing a membrane from the back of the eye.”(Alafalq M, 2023). While at first I was worried about such large machines operating on my little eyes I found that when I my procedure was finished and my recovery was done, I could see better than ever. Since the operation I have not developed any issues with scar tissue due to not only the surgeons ability, but also the extremely exact positioning that was possible because of the robotic arms.
I have attached this timestamped video that demonstrates the movement of these machines very well!

I am a patient living in a very remote area. Because of my location surgeons can be hard to come by, and most emergency operations need to be done in hospitals that require air transport. For that reason I was very worried about an upcoming Pancreatectomy I had been booked in for, but to my surprise I didn't need to be shipped halfway across the country just to receive a simple procedure. Instead I only had to travel a small distance to a hospital that had telesurgical equipment installed recently. My surgeon was able to easily perform the operation from a more populous area where he was located, and I could stay relatively close to home and not have to worry about finding a place to stay while I recovered. I must say I was also impressed during my recovery, not only was my pain must more tolerable than I expected, but now I have basically no scarring because of the high precision of the machines!(Professional,2024)(Choi,2018)
